Reply with quote | #1 | OK.. Over five years ago when I began to paddle and race, I was always confused about why there weren't any women paddling canoes. Since then every argument that I have ever heard has failed to give me a good reason why women shouldn't paddle canoes. Now WE are faced with the potential for full female participation in whitewater racing, finally making whitewater and flatwater racing an equal opportunity sport. It is just plain stupid to ignore this opportunity to clinch this emerging field by not developing female canoeists in the US. Juniors, Seniors, Flatwater, Slalom, Wildwater, it doesn't matter, and it is not a difficult base to develop, because the interest is already there. If WE act on this new and really cool opportunity to increase participation, and options for participation in canoe racing, we will be able to stay a step ahead of many paddling programs around the world. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed, but the sooner the ball gets rolling, the more people will jump on board. Give the girls the opportunitys they deserve, an support any interest that they might have in experiencing every possible class and event in paddle sports. Don't they deserve the chance to try? |
